Questions to ask a Mentor

Questions to ask a mentor:
1.     What are the employee retention rates?

a.       Is that due to burnout? Stress? Not being balanced? Too many cases?

b.      What do you do to avoid being burned out, stresses out, or over whelmed?

2.       What kinds of support does the organization have/offer?  

a.       Open-door policies?

b.      In-house training programs?

c.       Educational programs?

d.      Who is responsible to manage/train/oversee me?

3.       What is considered successful? Where is the bar?

a.       Is it coming to appointments?

b.      Being able to talk the talk?

4.       Who (which team members) needs to be involved in developing patient plans here?

a.       Am I allowed to give input (feedback) or am I simply here to watch and learn?

b.      Is there other information that the organization wants considered?

c.       Is there anyone outside of the organization that needs to be consulted?

5.       How am I to introduce myself to patients? As an intern or a student?

6.       Are there short-term goals that you (the organization) would like to see me reach?

7.       Are there long-term goals that you (the organization) would like to see me reach?

8.       Does the company have resources that they allow the interns to read/look at?
